About Brian Miller, MA, LMHC
Brian’s journey in the helping professions arose not long after graduating college in 1987 when, while working for a Fortune 500 corporation, he realized that for his livelihood to have meaning it needed to revolve around helping others. He proceeded to become a massage therapist and massage therapy instructor in the state of New Mexico. While he was able to help people physically, he did not have much effect on people’s way of understanding their lives and their long term happiness. This led to an interest in the internal world of the psyche and into psychotherapy.
Brian received his Bachelor’s degree from Lafayette College in Pennsylvania with a degree in Business and Economics. Brian attended Southwestern College in Santa Fe with the intent to learn the psychological and spiritual aspects of integration and healing and graduated in 2008 with a Master’s Degree in Counseling. In addition, he is undergoing certification training in Somatic Transformation, a body-based approach to treating trauma.
Brian is licensed as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor by the state of New Mexico and is certified by the New Mexico Council on Problem Gambling as a Certified Problem Gambling Counselor. In addition he has advanced training in Somatic Transformation, in Psychodrama, and is a Licensed Massage Therapist and Registered Massage Therapy Instructor by the state of New Mexico.
In addition to his private practice Brian also provides mental health treatment services to adolescents at an alternative high school in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
